History & MissionAbout us

Broward County Hispanic Bar Association (BCHBA) was founded in 1989, a time when diversity in the legal field was practically unheard of. Over the years, BCHBA leaders paved the way for this generation to have opportunities that were never available to them. To date, the organization continues to be a prominent voice to the Hispanic and Latino/a population and push for progress. Its aim is to promote diversity, cross-cultural appreciation and equality in the legal profession.

BCHBA proudly conducts educational seminars, provides mentorship and financial assistance to minority law students, participates in community service initiatives and hosts cultural and social events. Many of BCHBA’s current and past members are highly respected community leaders and members of the judiciary. Membership is comprised of caring judges, lawyers and law students, and our events are open to all.

Cultural Events

Part of our responsibility as an organization is to raise awareness about issues affecting minorities as well as create opportunities for cross-cultural appreciation to flourish. Many of our events aim to do just that.

Seminars

A number of our events each year provide lawyers with opportunities to learn and work towards meeting their Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.

Networking

A well-established professional network is crucial for growth. This is especially so for minorities. BCHBA members enjoy plenty of opportunities to meet leaders in the community and network with other attorneys.

Scholarships

Each year, we host a scholarship gala. This signature event provides our members and friends with an opportunity to come together and reflect about recent developments, recognize individuals and organizations making a real difference, and award scholarships to exemplary and deserving Hispanic law students.

Mentorship

Oftentimes, minority professionals face additional obstacles in progressing in their careers. Mentoring can substantially help the new generation overcome challenges and become the leaders of tomorrow. BCHBA recognizes that and works to help fill the need for mentors.

Community Service

Helping those in need not only promotes compassion and understanding, but has a lasting and positive impact in our community. BCHBA provides numerous opportunities for members to donate their time and give back.
