Judge Tarlika Nunez-Navarro is a Circuit Court Judge for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit and was appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Scott on March 12, 2018. Judge Navarro currently sits as the presiding Judge over Juvenile Drug Court and Felony Drug Court for Broward County and has been designated a “Champion” in her field for the 17th Judicial Circuit. Prior to her appointment, Judge Navarro was in private practice specializing in criminal defense and women’s rights and she also worked as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County, prosecuting crimes from first-degree misdemeanors to life felonies. Judge Navarro received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, and her law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude. While working on her Juris Doctorate, Judge Navarro clerked for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County’s Family and Domestic Violence Division, and has since presided as a Family and Domestic Violence Judge in the 17th Judicial Circuit. Judge Navarro is actively involved in her community and dedicates her time to mentoring adolescents and teaching the importance of health and well-being to colleges, universities and young lawyers. Judge Navarro serves as faculty at St. Thomas University School of Law where she co-chairs the Lawyer Well-Being Institute and sits on the board of advisors. Judge Navarro holds various leadership roles in several organizations in Broward County and throughout the State of Florida, and serves as the Judicial Liaison for the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association and the Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section.

Judge Navarro enjoys surfing and has travelled the world pursuing her passion. As part of her travels Judge Navarro taught English in Central and South America. She learned the importance of being of service to her community from her father who immigrated from Colombia and was the town doctor. Judge Navarro would shadow her father as he often made house calls for his patents. She believes in the importance of having balance in our lives and staying grounded. We are proud to honor her as the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association’s Judge of the Month for August 2021!
